The worst ever phase running and ruining the education system in India. And the only hope, Mr. Prime Minister would definitely consider this sector, a priority and bring in the necessary reforms that could help in taking the affordable and quality education to all. We often say education is one such thing that changes the fate and face of the country. But as we see the fee that many schools, colleges, institutions charge is unquantifiable, unimaginable, unaffordable, too high that only people above middle class could afford.

And these days, we could hardly see schools coming up with play grounds, necessary physical activity sessions, physical trainers, practical education, trained staff, etc. Though, they come up with play grounds, they use them for parking their buses and other vehicles. Due to which, students are spending very less time on the physical activities. I see many schools come up with taglines – The International School, The Global School, The Olympiad School, The Concept School, and blah-blah. Few questions

  • I wonder what all these taglines actually refer to.
  • Are there any standards set for these suffixes?
  • Do these suffixes mean something?
  • Do these suffixes really have such ability in deciding the purchasing power?

It’s too pathetic when it comes to Intermediate education (+1, +2). This is the stage where students actually has the capability to change the way they think, capability to upgrade their abilities, this is the stage where students adopt the learning system which colleges teach, that helps for the life time. Students, to be taught how to ADOPT the skills that makes them ADEPT at something and also being ADAPTIVE to the changes in today’s ever-changing world. But here, the way they treat students is too tough to even imagine. Quantity (scoring marks) is the only criteria they teach students and Quality (Learning) is being completely ignored.

Coming to higher education, It’s better to talk as less as possible. Quality has always been a question? Establishing graduate schools and engineering colleges has been a great destination in India for many black money hoarders and money launderers in the past two decades. Education, learning, and placements apart, at least 30 to 50% of these institutions were established in order to sideline the black money and again take an advantage of the welfare schemes provided to the poor students like fees reimbursements, scholarships etc. Welfare schemes in India may directly benefit very few, but gives much scope for wrong doings and are definitely bane for the society.

There are several statutory bodies, advisory bodies, regulatory bodies like UGC, AICTE, etc in place. For example, any institution has prior information about the visit of the officials from the above bodies, and these colleges get themselves prepared with the fake list of staff that doesn’t actually exist, fake facilities at the labs etc. Everything and everyone are manageable. Why do these regulatory bodies exist for?

Hence, because of these irregularities by institutions, with respect to regulations set by the regulatory bodies, we aren’t able to produce a decent number of employable and industry-ready candidates to the market, and start worrying and talking about another subject i.e. UNEMPLOYMENT. The companies now looking for trained and employable candidates as part of their cost-cutting rather hiring anyone and training them, which is an additional cost. The hiring ratio currently is around 1:10 with respect to IT companies, it is still more for core companies, that means out of 10, only 1 is employable, which is a serious aspect to be concentrated on.

Graduation is the stage where, one has to decide what to opt, i.e. 1) Out of their interest and 2) To go with the trend where the jobs are high in the market. Most people go with the second option and try for IT jobs, which is usually the largest jobs producing industry. The people, who go with the first choice i.e. out of their interest, also land up searching jobs in IT industry somehow. India is the land of reservation system. Whosoever has the advantage of this reservation system (caste system) opts for technical and core jobs in public sector and obviously does nothing, except few who are the right-fit.

Government has to take an initiative in promoting few other courses, bring in awareness about the existence of different courses, where we have much scope to produce professionals on our own.

For example, why do we need to hire PWC, Deloitte or any other institution? Aren’t we able to produce enough Chartered Accountants or Financial professionals? Are we producing enough professionals with respect to many departments like archaeology who can dig into our greatest history and same with any other department?

‘Make in India’ could be a remarkable step, but why do we need someone from other country come in and start manufacturing here? Why not bring in the necessary reforms in our education system that has the capacity and capability to build in-house professionals and companies.

And finally coming to medical education, I understand, I am not even worth talking about this, I can’t even afford talking on this subject.

When we say education is for all, education changes the fate of the country, it should come under basic needs followed by food, shelter & clothing. Education inflation has to be calculated along side of the basic goods and services inflation.

powerful-education

The very serious reforms have to come in place, Education system should completely come under the scanner. Let’s hope for the best.

ADOPT THE SKILLS – ADEPT AT SOMETHING – ADAPT TO CHANGE
